For 75 years, the volunteer members of the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay, Inc. have worked to improve the lives of underserved women and children in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Today, the League is continuing this tradition of service to our community by entering a three-year partnership with STAND! Against Domestic Violence, a Contra Costa County organization dedicated to stopping the cycle of domestic violence. The Junior League of Oakland-East Bay goal is to drive self-sufficiency and sustainability for victims of domestic violence by establishing a technology lab, developing a curriculum, and delivering a training program.

The Junior League of Oakland-East Bay and STAND! have a long history of partnership. The League began its collaboration with the Battered Women’s Alternatives (later changed to STAND!) with an advocacy project in 1981. Since then, the League has enjoyed an enduring relationship with STAND! Over the years, several Junior League of Oakland-East Bay members have served STAND! as volunteers to members of the Board of Directors, providing leadership that has helped move this agency from a very small crisis hot line into a full-service, highly respected non-profit.

During the next three years, the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay will establish a computer lab for STAND!, provide interview and resume building workshops, as well as offer an opportunity for battered persons to learn computer skills and become more marketable in today’s workforce. It is our hope by supporting domestically abused families, they will benefit from newfound skills, knowledge, and feel empowered to break free from what they often perceive as hopeless situations, but we need your help!

Please help us reach our 2009-2010 fundraising goal of $13,000 by making a donation today! Thank you in advance for your generosity, and we encourage you to keep in touch with our progress here.
