A day of empowerment, life skills and career guidance for women of Oakland’s Lighthouse Community Charter School
On March 20, 2010, The Junior League of Oakland-East Bay, Inc., presented a day of empowerment for young women of Oakland’s Lighthouse Community Charter School. Junior League of Oakland-East Bay’s GirlPower! event provided women in grades 5-8 an innovative learning experience, focused on self-esteem, acceptance of others, educational and career opportunities, health and fitness, and financial literacy.
The event also featured an interactive discussion for moms and caretakers on communicating with adolescent women.
With an interactive Challenge Day event and informative workshops such as Dollars and $ense, Life After Lighthouse, Self Esteem/ Building Healthy Relationships, and Healthy U, GirlPower! offered an amazing experience for over 50 girls. Each girl ended the day an Ambassador of GirlPower! with a wealth of knowledge that will catapult them into their future!
“Junior League demonstrated to our girls the important concept of volunteering and giving back to the community. You planned and executed an event that they will remember for a long time to come. Our only problem - everyone wants to know when we'll do it again!!” says Lighthouse Strategic Director Jenna Stauffer.
Thank you to our event sponsors who helped to make this day possible.
