Mackenzie Lesher is thrilled to serve as President of the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay for 2010-11. A proud member of the League since 2001, Mackenzie is an honored active and experienced leader. She has served on a number of councils in JLOEB as a chair and council director, and on the Board of Directors as a council director and Member-at-Large, including: New Member, Membership Enrichment Co-Chair, Membership Council Co-Director, Nominating Committee, Special Events Co-Chair and Home Tour Sponsorship Co-Chair.
"I am so pleased to have been chosen to serve as President,” said Mackenzie. “The women I’ve met in our League are the smartest and most talented women I’ve ever known, and to be chosen to lead this organization is an incredible honor.”
Mackenzie is passionate about education and building community. In addition to JLOEB, Mackenzie is active in a number of other community organizations. She currently chairs the annual On Broadway gala for the Diablo Regional Arts Association, the non profit organization that supports the Lesher Center for the Arts. She also volunteers her time to help organize the Newsmakers Speaker Series, a world class lecture program that has brought many notable figures to our area ranging from Jay Leno to Madame Jehan Sadat.
Raised near Modesto, Mackenzie graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in Political Science. While at Cal, Mackenzie was the Director of the university’s noted “Cal in the Capitol” program, which brings students to Washington, DC for internships in government and public service. She was also an active member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and remains an avid Golden Bears fan.
After working in the world of politics as a consultant, Mackenzie earned a multiple subjects teaching credential from St. Mary’s College. She then worked as an elementary school teacher and curriculum specialist in the Walnut Creek School District.
Mackenzie lives in Walnut Creek with her husband, Steve, their 2-year old son, Cameron, and their cocker spaniel, Sam.
