Sustainers

Overview     Activities & Events       Lillian Fletcher Nichols Sustainer of the Year Award

The Junior League of Oakland-East Bay, Inc. (JLOEB) welcomes all League members who, after a minimum of six (6) fully placed active years of Junior League service, excluding leave of absence years, choose to become a sustainer member. We also enthusiastically welcome sustainers transferring from other Leagues.

Sustainers use their Junior League training and expertise to share with JLOEB committees as advisors or with other community organizations within the Oakland and the East Bay area.

Welcome Note

Hello JLOEB Sustainers!

Welcome to the 2012-2013 League Year.  We are so excited to lead such a fabulous and diverse group of women.  Thank you for your continued support of the Junior League of Oakland East Bay through your membership and our common vision of “The Junior League: Women Around the World as Catalysts for Lasting Community Change”.  As a group, the JLOEB sustainers were the largest contributors to the Annual Fund last year; this so solidly underscores the value you place on the work of the JLOEB and its mission to provide the future leaders of our community.

We have yet another year of exciting sustainer activities planned for you this year! You will receive a mailing in the coming weeks with a JLOEB Bookmark, created exclusively for Sustainers, listing monthly Sustainer happenings. These fun events will also be listed on the website along with event sign ups. It is our hope you will participate in many of the planned activities over the course of the year. This year, we focused the Sustainer calendar on two genres of activitie
s —  social/just for fun and educational trainings —  to appeal to the broadest base of Sustainer interests. These events and trainings were by far the best attended last year.  For those of you who will miss the direct service opportunities, stay tuned.  We are planning collaboration with Wardrobe for Opportunity in the spring.

We are kicking off the League year with the annual fall social at the n
ew Neiman Marcus Store in Walnut Creek on Thursday, September 27th.  As our newest community partner and supporter (NM donated over $35,000 to the JLOEB last year) we chose this location both to show our appreciation and to offer something new. The format will be the same, great wine, a light meal and time to reconnect with old friends.  Neiman Marcus is also going to do a small fall trend presentation for us.  It’s going to be an evening not to be missed, so please sign up quickly as the event may sell out!

Other highlights include t
he 9 th annual Artful Living Home Tour in November, motivating self improvement trainings, trainings to help you build a sound financial future and a spring branding seminar.

It’s also a HUGE year of opportunity for the JLOEB actives this year.  After two years of researching the most pressing needs facing Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, the membership sele
cted Family Self Sufficiency as our specific focus area for community impact.  All our future projects community projects will focus on local issues around food, housing, clothing, and jobs.    The Junior League of Oakland East Bay, Inc. envisions an East Bay where food, clothing, housing and jobs are plentiful—creating a community where families are self-sufficient and thrive. Additionally, the JLOEB continues to participate in AJLI’s Action Learning Team to decide best practices in community impact around a League’s issue area.

Lastly, please let us know you’d like to get more involved with a particular committee, as a Sustainer advisor or if you would like to get involved with the Sustainer council!  We have lots of areas where sustainers are needed, just reach out to Susan or me and we will be more than happy to make the connection!
