A Word From Our President, Jessica Stelly Peterman

Welcome to the website of the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay, Inc.

I am honored to serve as President of the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay for the 2013-14 League year.  Founded in 1935, the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay (JLOEB) has contributed over seven million volunteer service hours and three million dollars to the community.  In addition, we have launched six non-profit organizations that continue to serve our community today, including:

  • East Bay Children’s Theatre
  • Junior Center of Art and Science
  • The Volunteer Center of Contra Costa (now Volunteer Center of the East Bay)
  • The Oakland Volunteer Bureau (now Volunteer Center of the East Bay)
  • Family Stress Center
  • Super Stars Literacy

Our mission, simply stated, is to promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women and improve our community.  Our membership has selected Family Self Sufficiency as our dedicated impact area.  This means that our work within the community, our advocacy and training will align with local issues around food, housing, clothing and jobs for East Bay families.  We strive to create communities where families are self-sufficient and thrive!

The impact that the League makes is possible because of the dedication of our members, including about 150 active, trained volunteers and 320 sustaining members who continue to serve the League and the community through their leadership and participation in a variety of community service activities.

In addition to its members, the JLOEB is supported by a generous group of donors, corporations, community partners and friends, who support our work year after year.

JLOEB is a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International, comprised of 293 Junior Leagues in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. The collective power and influence of this group of women, coming together to build better communities across the globe, is phenomenal.

Enjoy browsing through the League's website as you learn more about JLOEB, and please join us at an upcoming event.  We’ll look forward to seeing you!
