Become Part of the Legacy of Women Who Make a Difference

LAFAYETTE, CA, June 8, 2006 – Do you want to volunteer?   Do you want to ensure children get opportunities to succeed in life?  Do you want to be a vehicle for change?  Do you want to leave a lasting imprint on your community? If you answered “Yes” to the questions above, then the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay, Inc. (JLOEB) invites you to join them at one of three summer socials and become part of a world of nearly 170,000 women in 294 Leagues in four countries who make a difference every day through their volunteer efforts.  The open house events are scheduled in June, July and August, making it convenient to get a better understanding of the phenomenal impact this collective group of women has on building better communities.

“The Junior League offers more than the opportunity to volunteer and give back to the community. It provides a place to meet incredible women, make life-long friends, and learn new skills,” said Diane Stevenson, President, JLOEB, 2006-2007.  “It is difficult to put into words how personally rewarding and fulfilling it is to answer a community need, enrich the lives of children, and do so as part of a collaboration of smart, engaging and supportive women. The Junior League is a very special and unique organization.”

Throughout its 70-year history, the JLOEB members have contributed more than 7 million volunteer hours and approximately $3 million to community agencies who serve vulnerable children and families. The impact of more than 70 years of JLOEB voluntarism is seen and felt throughout the Bay Area community. Programs include Junior Center of Arts and Science, the Family Stress Center, Contra Costa County AIDS Task Force, Newborn Connections, Battered Women’s Alternative’s Transitional Housing, and the award-winning Super Stars Literacy Project.

Live Your Legacy Now – Attend a JLOEB Summer Social Event

The events offer several opportunities to get to know the League members in an informal setting as well as showcase the impact JLOEB has on the local community.  During the evening, JLOEB President, Diane Stevenson, joined by members of the JLOEB leadership team, will also offer insight into the League. There is no cost to attend.
