Done In A Day

In an effort to allow the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay Inc. (JLOEB) the flexibility to react quickly to community needs that are much simpler and shorter in term than the standard community project, our League has developed our Done in a Day Committee (DIAD). We enlist JLOEB volunteers to help outside agencies that cannot provide their own staffing. The flexibility and the short-term nature of these DIAD projects allow the League exposure to a rich variety of community agencies and volunteer experiences.

It is designed to tackle short-term community needs of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties which require volunteers for a single day. The activities most sought are those which directly support Children at Risk, which is JLOEB's mission. We have the wonderful opportunity of utilizing JLOEB's greatest resource: our members to assist your agency with projects and events that you are unable to staff on your own. JLOEB will provide up to 25 volunteers total, for shifts of 3 hours, over a maximum of one day.

JLOEB is no longer accepting applications from organizations interested Done in a Day volunteers. DIAD application deadline for 2007-2008 was August 15, 2007.

2006-2007 DIAD Projects
CALICO
As the CALICO (Child Abuse Listening, Interviewing and Coordination) Center in San Leandro approaches its 10-year anniversary serving the abused and neglected children of Alameda County, the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay, Inc. (JLOEB) is rekindling its partnership with the area's leading interview center for abused children. League members will gather to make fleece blankets for the children who visit the Center. Over 270 blankets were made. Read more >>

2005-2006 DIAD Projects
During the 2005-2006 League year, JLOEB joined with multiple community organizations to complete seven successful events that further our mission of helping meet the needs of Children at Risk in our communities. The committee selected organizations that focuses directly on children's needs and represented a broad spectrum of children across Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

Berkeley City Championship Golf Tournament
We supported this 5th annual tournament by providing ladies to greet and register golfers for this wonderful event at Tilden Park Golf Course. Proceeds from the event helped young people find employment, participate in after school sports and activities, and provide funds for tutoring and mentoring programs in the Berkeley community.

Casa Vincentia's Crab Feed 2006
This event was held at St. Theresa's Church Hall in upper Rockridge. Casa Vincentia is a shelter that offers prenatal care and shelter for pregnant homeless women. JLOEB volunteers did everything from food preparation to guest registration to selling raffle tickets.

Contra Costa County's Council for Child Abuse Prevention
Over 200 attendees filled the ballroom at Round Hill Country Club in Alamo, in their efforts to put an end to child abuse. JLOEB volunteers checked in attendees, sold thousands of dollars worth of raffle tickets and distributed silent auction prize packages to the winners during the luncheon.

Diabetic Youth Foundation
This foundation held their annual High Hopes Gala, their premier fundraising event, at Diablo Country Club. Their mission is to support people living with diabetes through education and recreational programs for children and families. Our volunteers decorated the auction areas and tables, compiled registration packets, and oversaw the silent auction.

Lindsay Wildlife Museum
JLOEB volunteers assisted the museum staff with their 50th Anniversary party to thank the public for their support over the years. Children and adults enjoyed touring the museum and visiting the festival booths and entertainment stage at Larkey Park.

Project Ready to Learn
The was sponsored by The Contra Costa Times. JLOEB contributed 40 volunteers to fill more than 1,000 backpacks for needy children.

Salvation Army
JLOEB assisted the Salvation Army with their annual holiday assistance campaign. Our volunteers helped over 500 families complete their applications for children's gifts and holiday food baskets. We also worked with an East Bay Girl Scout troop to provide entertainment and crafts for children that were in line with their parents.
