Who are
we? We are the very fabric of your community. The Junior League
is an international organization that has served local communities
through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers
for more than one hundred years. Because of our training, we
are the current and future leaders and members of other community
service agencies and boards. Each of our members aspires to
contribute to this powerful, living legacy…and to be honest
we're still crazy about the white gloves, pearls, parties and
spending time with friends.

However,
today, the gloves we wear are to protect our hands while
we repaint a local shelter or re-establish a schoolyard
garden. |

Today,
we still love pearls, but these pearls represent the wisdom
of those that have come before us; the mentoring from seasoned
active and sustainer League members who share with us how
to become a more effective leader in the community. |
|
Today,
we still love a good party, but these parties raise tens
of thousands of dollars for important Junior League programs
like our award-winning Super Stars Literacy Program at Hoover
Elementary School. |

And
yes, today we still love spending time with our friends
- how much more effective are two bodies, minds and hearts
at accomplishing positive things in our community than just
one? |
We give
of ourselves - time, money, resources, not because it is easy,
but because we believe it is vitally important to the health
of our community and a deeply held belief that community service
is a basic human responsibility. We have faith in our organization
and ourselves that what we do is worthwhile and will make a
difference. We believe that by teaching just one child to read,
we may be permanently changing the course of his life for the
better. We believe that in partnering with other organizations
such as the Food Bank and the Salvation Army, we are contributing
to the needs of others less fortunate and just maybe, saving
lives.
