Our enthusiastic members volunteered February 27th at the annual Super Stars Literacy Gala.  Super Stars Literacy is an early literacy intervention program that provides in-school and after-school services to K-2nd grade students whose low literacy skills place them at high risk of later academic failure. Super Stars Literacy was originally developed as a project of JLOEB! The program was launched at a single Oakland school in 2002 and provides targeted literacy intervention to 500 K-2nd graders at nine high-need schools in Oakland, Hayward, and Newark. Our members, alongside with notable community members from ABC7 News and the Warrior Girls, helped out with many aspects of the auction including setup, auction secretary, running prizes, and assisting Gala guests. The annual Gala raised over $100,000 to enable Super Stars to reach more students and further their mission of providing every child with the foundation for lifelong learning.

In the words of Super Stars, “as always, the Jr. League was integral to the success of our event! [JLOEB members] all really add such a professional and fun element to our event.” Super Stars looks forward to pairing with JLOEB in the future! Huge thank you to our volunteers!
