New Member Apartment Supply Drive: Make a Difference in the Life of a Foster Youth

Every year, thousands of young adults age out of the foster care system. Youth who have not had the opportunity to learn basic life skills are suddenly left without services they relied on, and many times, without a home. Local non-profit BAYC offers those youth opportunities similar to those who grow up outside the system--time to practice living on their own with a safety net. By offering a continuum of supportive learning experiences, BAYC programs reduce homelessness and increase achievement in education, employment and overall independence.

Alameda Point Collaborative

The Junior League of Oakland-East Bay (JLOEB) is excited about its new community partner, Alameda Point Collaborative (APC). APC’s mission to enable family self-sufficiency among formerly homeless residents matches well with JLOEB’s own goals within its impact area of Family Self-Sufficiency.

APC is a supportive housing community that uses all its resources to help families and individuals break the cycle of homelessness and poverty. They are the largest supportive housing provider for homeless families in Alameda County and their wide range of services give residents the tools they need for long-term success.

JLOEB will work to support and strengthen those programs provided to the APC residents and help further their current goals. The main focus areas JLOEB will target include: growing their Workforce Development Program, increasing involvement in the Teen Center, and expanding Community Garden programs. JLOEB will also help increase awareness and understanding of APC through helping with their annual community fundraising event: Not Your Mother's Garden Party.
